RP          Relative pronoun

Relative pronouns (who, which, and that) introduce dependent clauses functioning as adjectives. They describe the noun or the clause that comes immediately before them. The most common errors are with which and that.

Example with Error: The nurse gave the patient additional medication, that was dangerous.
Example with Correction: The nurse gave the patient additional medication, which was dangerous.

RO          Run-on sentence

A run-on sentence occurs when two sentences have been placed together without punctuation or conjunctions. Rewrite as two sentences, or use a conjunction and punctuation to join the clauses.

Example with Error: We need to apply the principles of primary health care this includes public participation in decision making.
Example with Correction: We need to apply the principles of primary health care. This includes public participation in decision-making.
Example with Correction: We need to apply the principles of primary health care, which includes public participation in decision-making.

SV          Subject-verb agreement

The subject and verb in a clause need to agree in number (singular or plural). The most frequent error is forgetting to add an “s” to a verb for a singular subject.

Example with Error: Mrs. A planned to have another child, but she feel that it will be difficult.
Example with Correction: Mrs. A planned to have another child, but she feels that it will be difficult.

The spelling and grammar check functions in Microsoft Word can be used to help you review and edit your paper.Use a dictionary if you are not sure of the correct spelling of this word.

Example with Error: Mental halth is a key factor in quality of life.
Example with Correction: Mental health is a key factor in quality of life.

SS          Sentence structure problem

Sentences are made of “clauses” that follow the pattern of Subject + Verb + Object or Complement. Misplaced modifying words, phrases, or dependent clauses can confuse meaning. Identify your basic clause and check the placement of modifiers and phrases..

Example with Error: After joining nursing and practicing as a student nurse in pediatric units, my passion has increased to work as a pediatric nurse after graduation.
Example with Correction: After joining nursing and practicing as a student nurse in pediatric units, my passion to work as a pediatric nurse after graduation has increased.
