University of Calgary offers a variety of services to help researchers to publish and archive their research works. 

Open Access Authors Fund

University of Calgary's Libraries and Cultural Resources has maintained an Open Access Authors Fund to help researchers pay for the article processing charges (APCs) on eligible open access publications. The fund may cover full partial APC for the selected journal. As of October 1, 2018, the funds allocated to the Open Access Authors Fund for this fiscal year have been exhausted. We recommend you to consider applying for OA funding from QNL until the fund is reinstated.

Publishing Discounts

Through mutual agreement between University of Calgary library and publishers, a discount on the Articles Processing Charge (APC) are available to our authors for submitting research works in open access journals.

  • The University of Calgary is an "American Chemical Society subscribing institution" so affiliated authors qualify for a $250 USD discount for articles accepted until end of year 2024.
  • Through the Canadian Research Knowledge Network, the University of Calgary is participating in a Read and Publish Deal with Cambridge University Press that allows UCalgary-affiliated researchers to publish an unlimited number of articles Open Access in Cambridge UP hybrid and gold Open Access journals at no charge. Read more about this deal on CRKN's website.
  • University of Calgary-affiliated authors are eligible for a 20% discount on Article Processing Charges (APCs) for both hybrid and gold open access journals through Elsevier.
  • In MDPI, the University of Calgary-affiliated authors are eligible for a 10% discount. When submitting, please identify yourself as a University of Calgary researcher to qualify for the discount.
  • In Taylor & Frances,  the University of Calgary-affiliated authors are eligible for a 25% discount in T&F Open Select journals. This applies to articles accepted for publication up until December 31, 2024. Please follow the instructions on the CRKN website to claim.

Digital Repository for archiving and sharing journals articles, conference proceedings, working papers and other scholarly works.

PRISM Dataverse: University of Calgary Data Repository for archiving and sharing data among researchers

Digitization: University of Calgary assists in digitization projects for on-demand requests as well as support the sharing of these projects to build digital collections.

Journals: University of Calgary host around 30+ open access journals on various topics. Some of the relevant journals are:

  • Teaching & Learning Inquiry
  • International Journal of Nursing Student scholarship
  • Papers on Postsecondary Learning and Teaching ( Conference proceeding of the University of Calgary Conference on Learning and Teaching)
  • Canadian Journal for New Scholars in Education

Ucalgary Press: University of Calgary publishes scholarly peer-reviewed books as open access under a series of specialized topic, especially in humanities and social science branch. Through open access, university makes these resources accessible to widest audience.
