Effective Feedback Strategies

Nursing faculty can provide feedback on students’ written work that feeds forward into future assignments and courses.

Engaging students at the level of ideas, not language, gives them the opportunity to struggle for expression.

Ultimately, resisting the urge to correct student work places the burden for correction and expression on the student, which is how they find their voice and develop self-efficacy in their academic work, especially writing.

Making direct correction to student work

(a) changes their text and

(b) appropriates their voice.

This can discourage rather than encourage future writing and growth.

Feedback that engages students in the writing process and their ideas should take into consideration the main points in the menu on the left side of your screen.
