FDA defines laboratory tests as "medical devices that are intended for use on samples of blood, urine, or other tissues or substances taken from the body to help diagnose a disease or other conditions" (FDA,2018).  This helps medical practitioners to diagnose medical conditions while planning and evaluating treatment.
