What is a Popular Source?

Popular sources come in different formats such as news articles, trade magazine articles, social media, magazines, books and websites. General characteristics of popular sources include

  • written by journalists or writers
  • audience is general public
  • presents news, events, opinions and general interest topics
  • uses everyday language
  • may have no references and citations
  • typically short in length (1/2 – 2 pages)
  • may include photos and images
  • creative appearance is meant to grab attention
